04 July 2011

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a $67.23m loan for the second phase of the Gitega-Nyangungu-Ngozi road project in Burundi, Africa.

The loan proceeds will be used to fund the Gitega-Nyangungu section of the Gitega-Nyangungu-Ngozi road corridor.
The second phase will cover the development and asphalting of the Gitega-Nyangungu segment and the rehabilitation of 22km of rural roads, building pedestrian bridges, creating a heavy vehicles parking lot at Gitega, as well as the development of socio-economic and commercial infrastructure.

In September 2010, AfDB allocated a $36m loan for the project's first phase, which involved the rehabilitation of the highway between Nyangungu and Ngozi in northern Burundi. The construction work will be underway between August 2011 and March 2015.
